Social and charity events

We do all sorts of social and charity events here at Geordie Chapter. June, July and August are always our busiest months. We do seasonal events too. A barbeque in the summer and a Santa Run at Christmas (not the other way round!) are always firm favourites.

There is always tons of things going on – our Activities Officers keep an eye out for events for us to attend. We have a packed Events Calendar. Chapter members also get up-to-date information through our closed Facebook group. We also email out a monthly Event Schedule, so that everyone knows what’s going on.

As well as our planned monthly ride-outs, members of our Road Crew often stage ad-hoc events – especially if the weather is good. Our Wednesday night rides are a great way of getting to know each other – it’s usually about ninety minutes of whizzing about local roads before a well-earned breather at a chosen hostelry from across the region. The Wednesday night rides cover all parts of the north-east so everyone gets a chance to ride locally, and explore new roads.

We hold non-riding events too – we have a getting-ready-for-the-season event in January or February, an End of Term party in late October and a Christmas party in early December! Geordie Chapter members like getting dressed up, so we always have a theme for everyone to enjoy!

BOB Ride

We’ve held a couple of BOB Rides over the past few years – the first one went from Land’s End to John O’Groats, raising money for Prostate Cancer research: the second one (in 2022) entailed a thousand miles down to and round Wales. It was a fabulous trip, raising money for the Chrysalis Club (supporting sufferers of dementia). Both raised more than £10,000 and gained fabulous support from across the region.

Santa Ride

Christmas is a time for giving and Geordie Chapter members are always very generous. Our Santa Run is usually the first weekend in December and, weather permitting, it’s always very well attended! We choose a charity to donate to – often in the form of presents and gifts – then have some sort of ride through Newcastle upon Tyne: either to the place of donation or back to the garage in Dunston for some mince pies and a rousing tune from the Salvation Army band!

Gateshead Harley-Davidson are incredibly generous too – they help us transport the presents and gifts and lay on something to eat and drink for us all too.

ABC Ride

We hold charity events that are very inclusive – our annual ABC Ride is a firm favourite across the motorcycling community in the north-east. It is open to any rider and we usually get more than a hundred riders on the day. We collect for Help for Heroes and we always have a great route planned through Northumberland. We set off from Albemarle Barracks (just off the Military Road) then head over to RAF Boulmer (east of Alnwick) before heading back down the coast to the RNLI Lifeboat Station (at Tynemouth).

There’s always something going on, so get amongst it!
