Ride to the Children’s Heart Unit, 2017

22nd July 2017 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

The Children’s Heart Unit at the Freeman Hospital includes the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), the High Dependency Care Unit (HDCU) and the general ward (Ward 23). It is one of only two specialist UK centres that can undertake highly specialised transplant and bridge to transplant operations on babies and small children. As such, it treats critically ill patients from across the UK and undertakes around 350 critical heart operations annually.

The Children’s Heart Unit Fund aims to keep the Freeman Hospital at the forefront of children’s cardiac care by raising money to buy equipment, facilities, aftercare, pay salaries and research for the Children’s Heart Unit. Small pieces of equipment help the nurses on the wards, and larger items help doctors and surgeons undertake complex operations. Sometimes funds are used to help pay for medical and support staff – essential to the running of the unit – and also for specialist resources to help children and their families.

We will ride up to the Freeman Hospital, leaving at 10.30 am, in fancy dress, so get your thinking caps on! On the way back, we’ll stop briefly in Newcastle to collect some money for the charity. We will then arrive back at JH-DG for 12.00 pm, for the start of the fun day.

Suggested voluntary £5.00 donation per bike, with all funds going to CHUF.
